How to Read This Data
A short guide to interpreting compliance information on this platform.
1. Check the Confidence Badge
Every data point on this platform carries a confidence label. Look for the colored badge next to each section:
Stable data is refreshed from official regulatory databases. Provisional data may be outdated. Contextual data is generated from report logic and should be treated as a starting point, not a final answer.
2. Understand the Status Labels
Prohibited
Banned. Do not use in formulations.
Restricted
Allowed only under specific conditions. Check concentration limits and usage notes.
Allowed
Generally safe under normal cosmetic conditions. No special restrictions.
OTC Drug / Quasi-Drug
Requires drug approval pathway. Cannot be used in standard cosmetics.
3. Read the Citations
Every rule and flag includes a citation linking back to the official regulatory source. Click "View official source" to verify the rule text yourself. Citations are the most important tool for building trust in compliance decisions.
If a citation is missing, the data is marked as provisional. Do not rely on uncited rules for high-stakes decisions.
4. Check Data Freshness
Ingredient pages show when data was last updated. Regulatory rules change. A rule that was allowed last year may be restricted today. Always verify with the latest official source before shipping a product.
The Sources page shows the live status of each regulatory data feed, including when it was last successfully refreshed.
5. Use Cross-Market Comparison
Ingredients can have different statuses in different markets. An ingredient allowed in Japan may be restricted in the EU. Use the cross-market comparison view to see all jurisdictions side by side before planning a multi-market launch.
6. This Is Not Legal Advice
This platform is a research and screening tool. It helps you identify potential compliance issues early. It does not replace a qualified regulatory consultant or attorney. For high-stakes decisions — especially drug-cosmetic boundary questions — consult a professional.
